Nestlings LLC was born soon after my fourth child. My husband was in the middle of Grad School. It wasn’t like I wasn’t busy, my fourth was born at less than 3 lbs, and I had more than enough to manage. I started selling baby carriers since necessity was the mother of invention. Before I knew it, I had sold 1000 handmade carriers, shipped to every state, several foreign countries, and I had a full-time gig sewing my fingers to the bone. That was just the first year.
Since my entrepreneurial spark was ignited, I ventured out into other products that interested me, allowed me to be a bit more creative, and allowed me to not be seat-belted into my chair sewing for eight hours a day. In the past four years I have created a wide variety of products from boutique quality baby gifts and apparel, to headbands, and embellished accessories. Recently I have been focused on home decorating accessories and have been dabbling in photography.
Running my own business and getting to call the shots has allowed me to focus on things I like, take some creative liberties, and has really taught me a lot about myself- its been very inspiring! Speaking of learning- did I mention that while doing all this I decided I still wasn’t doing enough and went back to school? I’m working on getting my degree- something I should have done long ago-okay- not that long ago (I’m not that old). I love the classroom experience and have learned a lot in my design and photography classes.
One thing I must confess, while I do juggle the family, school, work, church, etc, I am far from the supermom that I wish I was. I could not keep up with it all without my supportive husband and family. They help me keep me in balance and give me the time to bounce ideas, get their opinions on what to do next, and help make what I do possible.
Some other things you ought to know about me- I’m the oldest of seven, born in Washington State. As the oldest, I am a bit of a control freak and perfectionist. Remember the 1000 baby carriers I mentioned- I basically made them all- I just couldn’t let go-they had my name on them, my label, so I really try to make every product that goes out, as good as it can be. I want satisfied customers who will come back, buy more, buy often and tell their friends to do the same. I take great pride in my strong repeat and referral customers.
When I buy something, it’s like I’ve given myself a gift. I love to open the package and have a nicely wrapped product to make it feel a bit like my birthday. So you can have a bit of the same feeling, most products ship wrapped simply in white paper with a colorful ribbon so you have something to unwrap and hopefully cherish for years to come.
Being a consumer myself, I like to be kept in the loop- especially when I buy online. I send proofs or samples whenever possible; I ship quickly, I answer emails within a day; I email tracking information to you so you know when to expect shipments to arrive. If there are special needs, I’ll do my best to work with you. When you are buying gifts, tell me how I can accommodate you. When you buy multiple items that ship to the same address, you will only pay shipping on one item. I want you to have the buying experience you’d expect from your favorite store, but provided by me working hard in Suburbia Texas, USA. In return, I will keep looking for new ideas, new products, some fun ideas, and bring them to my site. So check often to see what is new.
